Taking Action: A planning-based intervention designed to support college student success.

About the Study

Taking Action is a research study led by the Temple University Collaborative on Community Inclusion. It is an online peer facilitated group process that supports individuals in creating a personalized system for recovering, sustaining, and/or improving their health holistically while enhancing their lifestyle. 

What Does Participation Involve? 

If you agree to participate in this study, you will complete:

  • 3 research interviews (baseline, post-intervention, and 3-month follow-up)
    • Each interview lasts about 1.5 hours
    • Interviews can be completed online on your own or with a research assistant via videoconference (Zoom)

After the first interview, participants are randomly assigned to one of two groups.

Taking Action Group

  • Particpate in 5 weekly virtual group sessions (2.5 hours each)
  • Sessions include discussion, activites, and personal action planning
  • Sessions are audio recorded for research quality purposes

Control Group

  • Will receive A Practical Guide for People with Disabilities Who Want to Go to College

Who can Participate?

We are looking for adults (18 and older) who are currently enrolled in college in the US and have at least 2 semesters remaining before graduation. To be eligible you must have experience with serious mental health conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia.

To join, you will need:

  • Access to the internet and comfort using Zoom.
  • Ability to communicate in English.
  • Ability to meet for all groups at either of the following times:
    • Mondays 5-7:30pm EST (March 9 – April 6)
    • Thursdays 5-7:30pm EST (March 12 – April 9)
