I found that most of my time involving my academic journey has been spent doing homework or attending classes. While that is a major part of being a successful student, I felt that I wasn’t as well rounded doing University activities outside of schoolwork. In my quest to broaden my success, I decided to attend my first-ever college football game, Temple University’s homecoming game at Lincoln Financial Field. Our Owls were playing Rutgers Universities’ Scarlet Knights, which is actually the school I had transferred from! It was a hot and sunny end-of-summer day. Temple students, alumni, and their families clad in Temple gear packed into the lower rows of the stadium to show their support for the Owls. I put the “T” sticker on my hat to show my support. During the game, I noticed that one of my classmates is on the football team and got to watch them play. Although I haven’t interacted with this student yet, seeing them both in class and on the field made me appreciate the amount of time and dedication they bring to our university. Coming to the game got me out of my comfort zone and got me to see the true meaning of belonging to something bigger than yourself. After the game, I noticed having a deeper sense of pride for being a Temple University student, something especially important to me because I am a recent transfer. I now have a deeper connection to Temple which will help carry me forward through the rest of my journey here.
