My name is Selena Morales, and I am a junior history major. I decided to take this class firstly because it is a required course for history majors, but I have been looking forward to taking this course for some time now. It is quite exciting to finally break away from taking so many general education classes, and really delve into being a historian which is something I’ve always wanted to do since starting my journey here at Temple last year (I transferred in last year after being a pre-med major at Thomas Jefferson University for my freshman year).
What is history?
History is the study of everything known to our planet that has already happened or is in the process of happening. Every year we step into is another year written into history. It is our continuous, ever flowing narrative of the world that touches every living and non-living thing. There is nothing that exists in this world that doesn’t have some sort of history. However, what is documented over the course of time whether it be on humans, animals, or plants, isn’t always true to what happened which is why history is a constant story being written, rewritten, and written again. I feel that history is always subjective, and on some occasions can be interpreted as objective. The experiences of billions of people across all civilizations and time frames cannot simply be summarized through an objective point of view because every person documented throughout history had their own perspective and their own unique experience of how the world was happening to them at the time.
