In-School Suspension is exclusion from class but not from school. There is no time limit on in-school suspension.
Short-Term Out-of-School Suspension is a suspension for 0-3 school days.
Long-Term Out-of-School Suspension is a suspension for 4-10 school days.
For long-term suspensions, parents/students have the same right to an Informal Hearing as students in Transfer hearings (see next panel)
For ALL Suspensions, Parents/Students Have the Following Rights:
Students must be informed of the reason for the suspension and be given an opportunity to respond
Parents must be informed in writing** of the suspension
Students must be permitted to make up all work missed during suspension.
** Parents and Students who do not speak English as a first language have a right to receive school notices and procedures in their first language, regarding all disciplinary matters.
