Some course instructors will also develop renewable assignments&nbsp;in which&nbsp;their students will help&nbsp;create course content.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grant&nbsp;recipients&nbsp;will&nbsp;participate&nbsp;in an online faculty learning community over the summer to expand their knowledge of OER, Creative Commons licenses, and open educational practices;&nbsp;grow as open education leaders;&nbsp;and,&nbsp;have dedicated time to develop their projects.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/library.temple.edu\/categories\/textbook-affordability-project\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Textbook Affordability Project<\/a>&nbsp;(TAP) is a grant program that awards funds to Temple faculty members who make their courses more affordable for their students by replacing costly educational resources with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/guides.temple.edu\/OER\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">open educational resources<\/a>&nbsp;(OER)&nbsp;or materials available through Temple Libraries.&nbsp;Alternatively, faculty can receive funds for engaging in other open educational practices, like creating learning objects or replacing traditional assignments&nbsp;with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1080\/87567555.2023.2179591\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">renewable assignments<\/a>&nbsp;that&nbsp;center&nbsp;students as creators of knowledge.&nbsp;The call&nbsp;for applications goes out annually in the spring.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 2011, The TAP has granted awards to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/library.temple.edu\/services\/history-past-awardees\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">over&nbsp;115&nbsp;faculty across nearly every discipline at Temple University<\/a>&nbsp;and saved students over one million dollars.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Guest post by Kristina De Voe,&nbsp;English&nbsp;and communication librarian,&nbsp;with the Open Education Group&nbsp; The&nbsp;Temple University&nbsp;Libraries&nbsp;is&nbsp;pleased&nbsp;to announce&nbsp;the&nbsp;2026-27&nbsp;Textbook Affordability Project&nbsp;grant&nbsp;award recipients:&nbsp;&nbsp; These&nbsp;course&nbsp;instructors have committed to&nbsp;making&nbsp;their courses more affordable&nbsp;in the upcoming academic year&nbsp;by using&nbsp;zero-cost course materials \u2013 like&nbsp;library content or open educational resources&nbsp;(OER)&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;in lieu of&nbsp;commercial&nbsp;textbooks.
