Welcome to the Rothberg Laboratory web site! Our research is focused on understanding the structure and function of potassium channels<\/strong><\/em>, which are proteins that are critical for controlling the electrical activity<\/strong><\/em> of the brain, heart, muscle, and most tissues of the human body. The laboratory is physically located at the Temple University Lewis Katz School of Medicine<\/strong><\/a>, in Philadelphia, PA<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Philadelphia<\/strong> is a beautiful and culturally diverse city of over 1.5 million people (currently the 6th most populous city in the U.S.), nestled within a metropolitan area of around 6 million. The city was founded in 1682 by William Penn, and features housing and structures that date back to the early 18th century<\/a>, as well as modern skyscrapers such as the Comcast Tower<\/a>. Philadelphia is home to many cultural attractions, including the Philadelphia Orchestra<\/a>, the Pennsylvania Ballet<\/a>, the Philadelphia Museum of Art<\/a>, the African American Museum<\/a>, the National Museum of American Jewish History<\/a>, and the Barnes Foundation<\/a>. In addition, Philadelphia is well-known for its sports teams, which include the Super Bowl LII Champion Eagles<\/a> (football), the 2008 World Series Champion Phillies<\/a> (baseball), the 76ers<\/a> (basketball), the Flyers<\/a> (hockey), and the Union<\/a> (soccer).<\/p>\n

In addition to Temple University<\/a> (which is Philadelphia’s largest university),\u00a0 the city is home to the University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University, Thomas Jefferson University, LaSalle University, and St. Joseph’s University. Villanova, Swarthmore, Bryn Mawr, Haverford, and many other colleges and universities are also located within the Philly metropolitan area.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
