Nanostructure evolution in thermoelectric materials
Nanostructured thermoelectric materials exhibit superior properties including low thermal conductivities. Evolution of these nanostructures have significant impact on their performance and reliability. Using in situ techniques such as high temperature neutron scattering and electron microscopy, we are studying temperature effects on the formation, growth, and degradation of secondary phases in high-performance thermoelectric materials.

Hydrogen storage
Hydrogen powered fuel cells are clean alternative power sources for automobiles. In collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory and several industrial partners, this project aims to provide safe, durable, and cost effective solutions for large-scale hydrogen storage through the design and analysis of novel steel composite vessels. It is expected their research outcomes will help to promote commercial utilization of clean hydrogen fuels in the transportation sector.
