Chicago is very well known as being a very crime apparent area, although in this instance I am only focusing on drug related crimes as they are apparent within the film The Florida Project crime of very class is evident in Chicago in large numbers. Because Chicago is home to one of the busiest rail yards in the USA and is a central transport hub as well as it being located near the US Border, drugs and drug smuggling are prevalent in society. Drugs including Heroin, Cocaine, Majijuanna, and Methamphetamine are in transit around the city and distributed to civilians through dealers. Around 70% of these drug users are male but the number of female users is growing every year. There is also a strong correlation between these drug users, unemployment and homelessness rates. As demonstrated within the image above, the number of Drug arrests have been decreasing since 2002, however there are still almost 40,000 drug related arrests per year in Chicago most of which are for Cannabis/ Marijuanna.
