As Tim mentioned on Wednesday, the academy has been shaken by the death of Deputy Pagerly. The death of an officer serves as a heartbreaking reminder as to exactly why we are all in the academy, and why it has been designed to be so demanding: this job is dangerous. That is why it is imperative that we strive to learn as much as we can, while we can.<\/p>\n
The past week at the SLETP has been very busy. Looking back, I’m always surprised to see exactly how much we’re learning (and retaining, if the tests we take are any indication) at such a quick pace. It’s an exhilarating feeling to look back on what’s only been handful of weeks and then be able to rattle off a long list of completely new skills I’ve learned – things that, up until recently, I had no notion of ever being able to do. A lot of it is phenomenally cool stuff, too – the kinds of things people write exciting movies and books about. Except we’re being taught to do it correctly, of course.<\/p>\n
Speaking of excitement, we’ll be spending the next few weeks at the shooting range, and then the driving course.
