PHIRE lab&#8217;s research focuses on studying health and physical activity patterns of people with disabilities in the community through wearable sensors and smartphone-based technologies. We also develop and apply novel physical activity monitoring and feedback technology, which when combined with behavioral programs would improve the health and quality of life of people with disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Tessa Johnson, MS &#8211; Neuromotor Science &#8211; PhD Student<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-844\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/phire\/files\/2021\/07\/TJ_headshot_Cropped2-284x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"125\" height=\"132\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/phire\/files\/2021\/07\/TJ_headshot_Cropped2-284x300.jpg 284w, https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/phire\/files\/2021\/07\/TJ_headshot_Cropped2-970x1024.jpg 970w, https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/phire\/files\/2021\/07\/TJ_headshot_Cropped2.jpg 984w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 125px) 100vw, 125px\" \/>Tessa is a PhD student in the Neuromotor Science program. She earned a Master\u2019s degree in Kinesiology from Temple University (\u201818), and a Bachelor\u2019s degree in Mathematics from Bryn Mawr College (\u201810). She is also a Registered Yoga Teacher. Before starting her PhD at Temple, she worked for three years as a Research Assistant in the Neuroplasticity and Motor Behavior Laboratory at Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute. She is interested in upper extremity motor behavior and rehabilitation following stroke and spinal cord injury, functional movement disorders, movement-specific reinvestment, attentional focus effects on motor behavior, and how metacognitive and psychological factors impact motor behavior.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Cole Hagen, BS &#8211; Neuromotor Science &#8211; PhD Student<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-942\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/phire\/files\/2023\/10\/Cole_headshot-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"125\" height=\"124\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/phire\/files\/2023\/10\/Cole_headshot-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/phire\/files\/2023\/10\/Cole_headshot-300x298.png 300w, https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/phire\/files\/2023\/10\/Cole_headshot.png 649w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 125px) 100vw, 125px\" \/>Cole earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Saint Cloud State University in 2019. Following graduation, he dedicated two years to researching pain and sensory mechanisms in individuals with neurological injury that were in clinical settings.
