Despite women\u2019s deep engagement in\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">music from antiquity to the present day, their accomplishments have too often been neglected or glossed over in received narratives of music history. This conference aspires to counter this trend by giving serious consideration to the women musicians whose work will be featured\u2014and not just as women-composers or women-performers, but as individual artists in their own right.\u00a0Paley Library music librarian <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/library.temple.edu\/about\/staff\/anne-harlow\"><b>Anne Harlow<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> will host the event, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cla.temple.edu\/gender-sexuality-and-womens-studies\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gender, Sexuality, and Women\u2019s Studies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> liaison <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/library.temple.edu\/about\/staff\/caitlin-shanley\"><b>Caitlin Shanley<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> will lead a workshop on contributing to Wikipedia on underrepresented topics (i.e. women in music).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This one-day conference is an outgrowth of \u201cFemale Keyboard Composers,\u201d a doctoral keyboard literature seminar created and taught by Professor <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.temple.edu\/boyer\/about\/people\/joycelindorff.asp\">Joyce Lindorff<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Speakers will include the conveners, doctoral students Emiko Edwards, Olena Havyuk-Sheremet, and Benjamin Katz, and professors from Temple University and the greater Philadelphia area. The day\u2019s events will conclude in Rock Hall with a 7.30 PM concert given by students, faculty, and guest artists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Invited local scholars include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/finearts.camden.rutgers.edu\/music-program\/music-faculty\/julianne-baird-ph-d\/\"><b>Julianne Baird<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, an internationally renowned soprano, scholar and, Distinguished Professor of Music at Rutgers\u2013Camden; <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.masongross.rutgers.edu\/music\/faculty\/rebecca-cypess\"><b>Rebecca Cypess<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, harpsichordist, fortepianist, and Associate Professor of Musicology at the Mason Gross School of the Arts (Rutgers), who is presently \u201cengaged in long-term publication, performance, and recording projects related to the German-Jewish patron and\u00a0keyboardist\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theavidlistener.com\/2015\/09\/silence-from-the-salon-in-search-of-sara-levy.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sara Levy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (1761\u20131854) and her place in Enlightenment culture\u201d; <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><b>Martha Schleifer<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, retired Boyer College faculty member and co-editor of\u00a0the multivolume anthology <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/temple-primo.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com\/primo-explore\/fulldisplay?docid=01TULI_ALMA21264625900003811&amp;context=L&amp;vid=TULI&amp;search_scope=default_scope&amp;tab=default_tab&amp;lang=en_US\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Women Composers: Music through the Ages<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Participating Temple faculty include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.temple.edu\/boyer\/about\/people\/SaraBuechner.asp\"><b>Sara Davis Buechner<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a critically acclaimed concert pianist whose album \u201c<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.arkivmusic.com\/classical\/album.jsp?album_id=250992\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jazz Nocturne: The Collected Piano music of Dana Suesse<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201d is the only recording fully dedicated to this twentieth-century composer\u2019s works;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.temple.edu\/boyer\/about\/people\/cynthiafolio.asp\"><strong>Cynthia Folio<\/strong><\/a>, composer and Professor of Music Theory, who traveled to Cuba in November 2017 for the premiere of a new work for women&#8217;s chorus;<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.temple.edu\/boyer\/about\/people\/stevenzohn.asp\"><b>Steven Zohn<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, the Laura H. Carnell Professor of Music History, is a Baroque flautist, scholar of eighteenth-century music, and leading expert on the music of Georg Philipp Telemann; <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><b>Joyce Lindorff<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, scholar of historical keyboards and their repertoires whose playing has been lauded by the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Philadelphia Inquirer<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for her \u201csterling clarity, insight, and dazzling technical mastery.\u201d She has recorded both early and contemporary harpsichord music for the Titanic, Centaur, CRI, Serenus, Digitech, and Paladino labels.
