By Dave Ramsey and Rachel Cruze

This book is a pretty good resource for taking the lessons from Dave’s other books (Total Money Makeover), and using it to teach kids of all ages how to handle their money. A lot of the usual tactics are covered (envelope system, cash for everything, living on a budget, etc.). They also cover age appropriate resources from kindergartners through college (and post college in some instances since they also address wedding expenses from the parent’s perspective).

Some of the book is based on appropriate modeling of concepts (have your kids aware of, and participate in, tithing). Some are strictly things you will need to do on your own. And, as expected with a Dave Ramsey book, there’s also hard knock lessons for kids (when the money is gone, the money is gone), with personal examples from Rachel Cruze (Dave’s daughter). They’re honest in explaining that sometimes mistakes were made (on each side) but things still turned out OK.

One caveat with this book: If you’re not adhering to the Dave Ramsey model already, don’t expect your kids to adhere to it. Lead by example.
