With all its categorizing and emphasis on its production, it was easy to get lost in its end product. However, when explaining the frames that some photos get and how it depends on their importance it prompted me to ask them, what exactly makes some photos more important than others. How do they pick which ones deserve the honor of being ‘important’? My mind immediately thought of maybe the beauty of a photo, then I thought maybe it depended on how old it was. They responded by saying that it’s usually of important rich people like government officials. I, unfortunately, was not surprised, long has it been that money is directly correlated with importance. However, while these individuals might have high power compared to a regular day-to-day citizen it reminded me of the importance of interest. Rallies, religions, political parties, demonstrations, and protests, are some of the many examples of power in numbers. I picked this picture because it reminded me exactly of that. Again, while in a singular sense, we might have high interest, it’s hard to change anything unless you yourself are wealthy and have the connections and power to promote change. While it is 100% possible for a regular person to make a change, it becomes more likely when other people join in the cause; with more and more people comes higher interest and power. To be able to see this solidarity demonstrated even so long ago, in a place so far from mine, is a beautiful and wonderful thing. To me the power of unity is what should be deemed important.

Screenshot

When looking at the Fototeca archive it brought me back to when we actually visited its site.
