While searching through the photo archive I stumbled across this adorable picture of a woman with her cat. This made me step back and reflect on how we often view the past through pictures. There is an attitude that we are separate from the past, and it’s something to look at through photographs. But as we went over in class, history is now and ever-changing. We take pictures with our pets always. I think the photo was taken because this woman and her family just genuinely wanted to capture a moment with her cat, and it’s a cool photo to have. Not everything in the past was dramatic, but simply human, like a woman and her cat. I also think it is important to understand that we are not separate from the past. And viewing photos that humanize the past is just as important as viewing photos about important historical events.
