This photograph appears to have been taken on the streets of Yucatán to depict people rallying together in a form of movement. The purpose of this photograph is to illustrate a stand taken against a political policy, as well as to spread the word and raise awareness among people who may be uninformed of it. Much of this photo reminds me of the various movements we’ve experienced, particularly from Covid-19 to now. I believe this photograph displays the Yucatán people protesting against the Mexican government’s attempt to impose political regulations on them that they did not agree with, particularly after the Republic of Yucatán requested military aid from Mexico in 1847 due to the Caste War. This was provided on the condition that the Republic rejoin the Mexican Federation, therefore they only joined at the time because they required assistance.
