When reading The Presence in the past I thought of the fact that Chichen Itza resembles an amusement park in so many ways and how this poses a lot of risks to the understanding of Mayan history. Chichen Itza being a tourist destination leads to commercialization where the cultural and historical significance gets undermined by profit driven activities. There is also the aspect of people just having a superficial understanding of the history because visitors will unfortunately prioritize taking pictures and having just surface level experiences there. And this relates to Disney almost creating a plantation theme park because the same thing would have happened there as well.
