While walking around parts of Merida can be tiring, it has been exciting to see the more suburban parts of Merida. The architecture of some of the houses in West Merida remind me a lot of the houses I have seen when visiting India. There are boards hung in front of houses with family names, which invokes a lot of memories. Along with that, the layout of most houses tends to have one floor with multiple rooms and a large front space to park cars or keep small plants. People are not afraid to pick bright colors either for their homes, which is opposite to the minimalistic aesthetic that is favored by some in America.
