{"id":2,"date":"2024-04-28T21:21:20","date_gmt":"2024-04-29T01:21:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/mstover\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2026-01-11T10:05:28","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T15:05:28","slug":"sample-page","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/mstover\/","title":{"rendered":"About me"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I am a Professor in the <a href=\"http:\/\/math.temple.edu\">Department of Mathematics<\/a> at <a href=\"http:\/\/temple.edu\">Temple University<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Research interests<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My research is largely focused on where the study of discrete subgroups of Lie groups intersects with algebraic geometry, low-dimensional topology, hyperbolic geometry, dynamics, and number theory. In some sense, the problems I study follow up on the work of Klein, Picard, and Poincar\u00e9, but from a more modern point of view it is deeply influenced by the Gromov-Thurston perspective on geometry and topology and the work of Margulis on dynamics and rigidity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My work was awarded a 2023 <a href=\"https:\/\/cst.temple.edu\/faculty-awards\">Dean\u2019s Distinguished Excellence in Research Award<\/a>, and is currently supported by NSF grants <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsf.gov\/awardsearch\/showAward?AWD_ID=2203555\">DMS-2203555<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsf.gov\/awardsearch\/showAward?AWD_ID=2506896&amp;HistoricalAwards=false\">DMS-2506896<\/a>, along with award SFI-MPS-TSM-00014184 from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simonsfoundation.org\/\">Simons Foundation<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Professional history<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I graduated from the <a href=\"http:\/\/mssm.org\">Maine School of Science and Mathematics<\/a> in 1999 and the <a href=\"http:\/\/uchicago.edu\">University of Chicago<\/a> in 2003 with a BA in mathematics. My PhD is from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.math.utexas.edu\">Department of Mathematics<\/a> at the University of Texas at Austin in 2010, where my advisor was <a href=\"https:\/\/math.rice.edu\/~ar99\/index.html\">Alan W. Reid<\/a>. From 2010 &#8211; 2013, I was an RTG Postdoctoral Assistant Professor in the <a href=\"https:\/\/lsa.umich.edu\/math\/\">Department of Mathematics<\/a> at the University of Michigan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I joined Temple in 2013 as an Assistant Professor, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2019 and to Professor in 2025.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Temple University.
