As you read through this text, the subject will switch back and forth from the work of 17th century writer and women’s advocate, Mary Wollstonecraft, and the works of more modern, 21st century feminists. The focus of this piece is to compare Wollstonecraft’s ideals to that of modern day women, and see how they have changed or been altered to fit into contemporary life. Below you will read a number of excerpts from Wollstonecraft’s book, A Vindication of the Rights of Women, and within this text there will be hyperlinks, annotations, images, and more connecting and adding on to the writing of Wollstonecraft. I am hoping to open up the eyes of the readers to the opposition of modern feminism to one of the first ever examples of feminism.
