Black and Indigenous History in Philadelphia

The three topic ideas I had for my project are the Civil Rights Movement in Philadelphia, the Slave Trade in Philadelphia, and the use of the Underground Railroad in Philadelphia. I choose these three topics because I am very interested in United States history from the 1600s to present day. These three topics are huge events in US history but you never really her anything about them in relation to Philadelphia. I find Black history in Philadelphia very interesting because I feel like it often gets over looked. For example in high school we learned about anti-Irish riots in Philadelphia but not the MOVE Bombing or race riots of 1834. Black history interesting because it is not always the history that we get to learn in school. I want to know how Philadelphia played a roll in these major historical events. What roll did Philadelphia play in the Civil Rights Movement? What impact did Philadelphia have on the slave trade? How did Philadelphia or certain houses in the Philadelphia area helped runaway slaves reach freedom through the Underground Railroad.
