Ramsey, PhD<\/strong><br>Statistical Analyst\/Programmer<br>215-707-9288<br><a href=\"mailto:Frederick.Ramsey@temple.edu\">Frederick.Ramsey@temple.edu<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Advisor Selection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Students should reach out to a potential thesis advisor via email to discuss their thesis topic, anticipated graduation, and to obtain the faculty member&#8217;s agreement to serve as the thesis advisor. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the faculty member has agreed to the project, students should complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/mahjb\/hub\/thesis\/thesis-advisor\/\">thesis advisor selection form<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"fmse\">FMSE &amp; MAHJB Thesis (MD\/MA Students)<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-medium\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/maub\/files\/2020\/10\/poster1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1422\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Dual degree MD\/MA students will take a Faculty Mentored Scholarly Experience (FMSE) 4-week rotation in their third and fourth years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">M3 FMSE<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The third year FMSE includes a blend of guided and independent research. You\u2019ll get exposure to expertise from the library research staff and other researchers and research administrators on best practices for beginning a scholarly research project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FMSE 1 is the perfect time to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Focus in on your key area of scholarly urban bioethics interest.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identify your thesis advisor (you\u2019ll need a primary advisor from CHJB, you can have secondary advisors from elsewhere in or out of the university)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Learn\/reinforce foundational research skills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Begin (if you do this rotation early) or complete (if you are later in the year) your background literature review<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Begin or complete your background and significance drafts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Consult with biostats or other departments as necessary<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Note \u2013 FMSE 1 timeline\/assignments subject to change<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">M4 FMSE<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In year 4 you\u2019ll have the opportunity to participate in an optional FMSE 2 rotation. Urban Bioethics students should expect to do this if their thesis is not already done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FMSE 2 rotation is less structured than FMSE 1 which allows students to work more extensively with their thesis advisor during this time.
