The thought process..

Hey yall! So, for my final MA project I had two ideas. The first idea was to spread awareness about the ongoing opioid crisis in Philadelphia but mainly in the Kensington area. I follow someone on Instagram who literally interviews those who are currently residing in the area with the addiction. I think it would be cool to see if I can team up with him and create a documentary. My other idea consisted of a multiple GQ styled interviews on Black athletes who play sports at Temple. Being as though I attend a PWI I thought it would be cool to shine a light on the minority and let them show us that they are more than just athletes, they’re human too. In the GQ interviews their theme is “10 Things ____ (name) Can’t Live Without” obviously I wouldn’t copy their entire theme but I have yet to come up with my theme. No matter which topic I pick I plan on shooting all the footage and editing it myself. I will be open to critiques from my peers as I want to know their opinions as well.

Navigating Inequality From The Sidelines: A Documentary About Women In Sports Media by Rebecca Sebring is about the challenges women in the sports media industry face. This project really has the content and from that I wish to have in mine. More so for the sports topic, I would be interviewing multiple athletes like how Rebecca did with interviewing different reporters and executives in the industry. Now that I think about it this documentary may have given me an idea about a theme for my GQ interviews but I will save it until it is thoroughly developed. I like how all the women in the project felt the same but expressed it in many different ways. This is how I dream of my project being. If I do choose to do the opioid epidemic topic, some may feel the same but none of their stories will be the same. All in all, this MA project has a lot of consistencies that I plan on incorporating into my own project.
