Alexander Nieh’s Portfolio of the World of Film

Biography

Alexander Nieh is a junior in Film and Media studies at Temple University with a passion for film. He has completed technical classes in film making such as Videography and Editing and supporting classes such as Film History and Cinema City. He is proficient in using cameras to shoot still pictures and making movies,  including using Bolex and Black Magic. He is also proficient in Premier Pro and Final Draft. Alexander first decided on this career course in high school where he took his first filmmaking class and showed interest in screen writing. 

Personal Statment

There were two things in my life that I grew up with outside of school. One was the many Asian cultural events and programs I have participated in, and the other was the many different television series I enjoyed watching over the years. One of my favorites growing up was The Amazing World of Gumball, a world with various styles of cartoon characters. It was the chaotic freedom of the show that drew me in and prompted me to storytelling in the first place. As I pursued a career in film, it is only logical for me to seek an internship that can help me in specific areas of interest such as videography, and in areas that can provide a holistic understanding of filmmaking.    

I first became interested in filmmaking while I was in high school. I was fascinated in the technical aspects of filmmaking, especially with cameras and editing softwares. As I entered college I began to learn how to use cameras like the Canon XA20, Panasonic Lumix DMC-G7, and more complex editing tools such as Premiere Pro. I also learned to use an old fashioned Bolex camera. Through this knowledge I was able to complete difficult assignments, many of them outside my comfort zone.   

I am highly aware of the importance of the hands-on experience I can gain from an internship in the entertainment industry. I am eager to put both hard and soft knowledge I learned in school to use, further advance my professional skills, and start building a network and form connections in the film industry.
