

{"id":2362,"date":"2019-02-05T01:00:38","date_gmt":"2019-02-05T01:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/libraryprograms\/?p=2362"},"modified":"2019-02-04T21:28:02","modified_gmt":"2019-02-04T21:28:02","slug":"an-evening-of-poetry-at-the-libraries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/libraryprograms\/2019\/02\/05\/an-evening-of-poetry-at-the-libraries\/","title":{"rendered":"An Evening of Poetry at the Libraries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Join us next <\/span><b>Wednesday, February 13 <\/b>at <b>6:00 pm<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for an <a href=\"https:\/\/library.temple.edu\/beyondthepage\/event\/babel-poetry-collective\">evening of poetry<\/a> with some of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Philadelphia\u2019s most talented young voices. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Members from Temple\u2019s own <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/babeltempleuniversity\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Babel Poetry Collective<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> will read original work and moderate a conversation with the current and former Philadelphia Youth Poet Laureates, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wes Matthews and Husnaa Hashim. Wes and Husnaa will also take the stage to share their poetry with us. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/libraryprograms\/files\/2019\/02\/Wes.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2365 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/libraryprograms\/files\/2019\/02\/Wes-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/libraryprograms\/files\/2019\/02\/Wes-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/libraryprograms\/files\/2019\/02\/Wes-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/libraryprograms\/files\/2019\/02\/Wes.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><strong>Wes Matthews<\/strong> is a Detroit-born, Philadelphia-based poet and essayist and is currently serving as the 2018-19 Philadelphia Youth Poet Laureate. He is a 2x Brave New Voices competitor, a 2016 TEDx speaker, and winner of the 2018 Philly Slam League All-Star Poetry Slam. His work has been published in the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Detroit Free Press<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">,<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Eunoia Review<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dreginald Magazine<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and elsewhere. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/libraryprograms\/files\/2019\/02\/Hussana.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2366 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/libraryprograms\/files\/2019\/02\/Hussana-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/libraryprograms\/files\/2019\/02\/Hussana-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/libraryprograms\/files\/2019\/02\/Hussana.jpg 409w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><strong>Husnaa Hashim<\/strong> is the 2017-2018 Youth Poet Laureate of Philadelphia, and author of the poetry collection <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Honey Sequence<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. She is a first year student at the University of Pennsylvania. Husnaa has competed with the Philly Youth Poetry Movement, performed at various conferences and festivals, and received numerous Scholastic Art and Writing Awards including a National American Voices Medal awarded at Carnegie Hall. Husnaa\u2019s work can be found in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">RookieMag<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">KidSpirit Online<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kenyon Review Young Writers<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> anthology, the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Voices of the East Coast<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> anthology, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">APIARY 9<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, among others. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This program takes place in the Paley Library Lecture Hall (ground floor) at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/itbXqHET58S2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">1210 Polett Walk<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and is free and open to all.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Join us next Wednesday, February 13 at 6:00 pm for an evening of poetry with some of Philadelphia\u2019s most talented young voices.
