Jonathan Franzen has said of the publication, \u201cJust when you\u2019re thinking you\u2019re intellectually alone in the world, something like n+1 falls into your hands,\u201d and A.O. Scott raved in the New York Times magazine that the periodical offers \u201c[p]ointed, closely argued and often brilliantly original critiques of contemporary life and letters.\u201d Gessen is an essayist, novelist, and translator from Russian. His first novel, <em>All the Sad Young Literary Men,<\/em> was published in 2008, and he has written for the <em>New Yorker<\/em>, the <em>London Review of Books<\/em>, and other print and web-based periodicals. Roth lives here in Philadelphia and is a 2009 Pew Fellow in the Arts.
