Temple\u2019s week-long celebration ran from March 10-14 and offered participants valuable insights into various aspects of open educational resources (OER) and practices.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:18px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This year we offered students a \u201cmad lib\u201d style postcard that allowed them to thank a professor for using low or zero-cost course materials as well as a \u201cSupport Zero Textbook Costs\u201d sticker. We also tried something completely new! We interviewed students about their textbook experiences at Temple University. Keep reading for workshop highlights:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Monday, March 10: The week kicked off with a session on <a href=\"https:\/\/temple.hosted.panopto.com\/Panopto\/Pages\/Viewer.aspx?id=96458583-4d4c-40d6-a7ed-b29f011621e9\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/temple.hosted.panopto.com\/Panopto\/Pages\/Viewer.aspx?id=96458583-4d4c-40d6-a7ed-b29f011621e9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&#8220;Making Courses Affordable with Zero-Cost Course Materials,&#8221;<\/a> where attendees learned about locating OER and library resources to reduce textbook costs for students.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tuesday, March 11: Faculty members gained strategies for promoting their open scholarship, including building scholarly profiles and displaying work on social media, in the &#8220;How to Promote Your Open Scholarship&#8221; workshop.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wednesday, March 12: The<a href=\"https:\/\/temple.hosted.panopto.com\/Panopto\/Pages\/Viewer.aspx?id=3b8891ab-cfc9-445f-bd7a-b29f00e38c92\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/temple.hosted.panopto.com\/Panopto\/Pages\/Viewer.aspx?id=3b8891ab-cfc9-445f-bd7a-b29f00e38c92\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> &#8220;Copyright and Creative Commons&#8221; <\/a>workshop provided essential information on Creative Commons licenses, their usage, and how to license original work.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thursday, March 13: Participants explored innovative approaches to information literacy assignments in the &#8220;Transform Your Information Literacy Assignments with Open Educational Practices&#8221; session, focusing on renewable assignments and active student engagement in knowledge creation.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Friday, March 14: The week concluded with an <a href=\"https:\/\/temple.hosted.panopto.com\/Panopto\/Pages\/Viewer.aspx?id=84ac4b6e-c6e6-4227-a2fd-b2a30118ae84\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/temple.hosted.panopto.com\/Panopto\/Pages\/Viewer.aspx?id=84ac4b6e-c6e6-4227-a2fd-b2a30118ae84\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">information session<\/a> on the <a href=\"https:\/\/library.temple.edu\/categories\/textbook-affordability-project\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Textbook Affordability Project<\/a> (TAP), detailing grant opportunities and application processes for interested faculty.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:18px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Attendees of Open Ed Week workshops were entered into a drawing for a chance to win a library swag bag, with multiple registrations increasing the chances of winning. Professor Amy Bieda of the College of Public Health won our raffle!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:18px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>These workshops highlighted the growing importance of OER and zero-cost course materials in higher education, aligning with broader initiatives to make education more accessible and affordable. As institutions continue to embrace open education, events like these play a crucial role in equipping educators with the knowledge and tools to implement OER effectively in their courses.
