New and competing renewal grant applications for <strong>ALL <\/strong>research projects that generate scientific data will now need to include a robust and detailed plan for how you will manage and share data during the entire funded period. This Data Management and Sharing Plan (DMSP)\u2014similar to what other funders call a Data Management Plan (DMP)\u2014should be two pages or less and <a href=\"https:\/\/grants.nih.gov\/grants\/guide\/notice-files\/NOT-OD-21-014.html\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">include these sections<\/span><\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Data type<\/li><li>Related tools, software, and\/or code<\/li><li>Standards<\/li><li>Data preservation, access, and associated timelines<\/li><li>Access, distribution, or reuse considerations<\/li><li>Oversight of data management and sharing<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Library resources, education, and tools<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re unfamiliar with what a DMSP or DMP is, don\u2019t worry, the Libraries have you covered! We have a guide to the <a href=\"https:\/\/guides.temple.edu\/datamgmt\/NIH2023\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">NIH\u2019s guidance changes<\/span><\/a>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/guides.temple.edu\/datamgmt\/dmps\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">guide to DMPs<\/span><\/a>, and the NIH has also launched a site with <a href=\"https:\/\/sharing.nih.gov\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">information on data sharing<\/span><\/a>. These guides will give you more detail on the sections of a plan and answers to questions like, When do I submit my DMSP? (Answer: for extramural grants, as part of the Budget Justification section of the application.)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To learn more, attend one of our fall workshops related to the policy: <a href=\"https:\/\/library.temple.edu\/events\/1289\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Writing a DMP for the New 2023 NIH Guidelines<\/span><\/a> on October 19 at 12pm, and <a href=\"https:\/\/library.temple.edu\/events\/1277\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">2023 NIH Policy Changes<\/span><\/a> on October 26 at 12pm (register at the links). We will also be hosting <a href=\"https:\/\/ginsburgstudy.temple.edu\/event\/9563812\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/ginsburgstudy.temple.edu\/event\/9563812\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">a panel discussion on November 2<\/span><\/a> at 12pm with Temple researchers to discuss what the policy changes mean to our research community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To help you write your plan, we support an online tool that guides you through writing a DMP: the <a href=\"https:\/\/dmptool.org\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">DMPTool<\/span><\/a>. Check out our <a href=\"https:\/\/ensemble.temple.edu\/Watch\/Zx28FwHg\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">how to video on the DMPTool<\/span><\/a> and our <a href=\"https:\/\/library.temple.edu\/services\/using-the-dmptool\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">interactive online tutorial<\/span><\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the Libraries\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/library.temple.edu\/categories\/research-data-services\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Research Data Services team<\/span><\/a> can meet with you, your lab, or your department to present on these guidance changes and resources, and answer any questions.
