Morgan Babst<\/strong>. I\u2019m still reading it, but to summarize I\u2019d say it\u2019s about a family torn apart by and attempting to come back together after Hurricane Katrina. The book explains how this dynamic has played out in the course of American history, and is relevant today in thinking about contested positions on immigration. This book is also available <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/temple-primo.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com\/primo-explore\/fulldisplay?vid=TULI&amp;search_scope=books_scope&amp;tab=default_tab&amp;docid=01TULI_ALMA51339664740003811&amp;lang=en_US&amp;context=L\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">online.\u00a0<\/span><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/librarynews\/files\/2018\/03\/f_rowland.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15232 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/librarynews\/files\/2018\/03\/f_rowland.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"120\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2013Fred Rowland, Reference Librarian, Classics, Economics, Philosophy, and Religion<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I loved <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/temple-primo.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com\/primo-explore\/fulldisplay?vid=TULI&amp;search_scope=default_scope&amp;tab=default_tab&amp;docid=01TULI_ALMA21333307410003811&amp;lang=en_US&amp;context=L\"><i>The Unseen World<\/i><\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> by (Temple Liberal Arts writer-in-residence!) <strong>Liz Moore<\/strong>. The novel follows protagonist Ada Sibelius as she decodes the clues of her father\u2019s past. It\u2019s part family mystery, part computer science history, part coming-of-age story. I couldn\u2019t put it down. Moore did a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/library.temple.edu\/watchpastprograms\/show\/e78de9c2-58a9-4f50-ba46-bcac9bf41a9a\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">reading for us in the fall<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and the crowd loved her as much as I do. <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/librarynews\/files\/2018\/03\/s_wilson.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-15230\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/librarynews\/files\/2018\/03\/s_wilson.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"133\" height=\"133\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/librarynews\/files\/2018\/03\/s_wilson.jpg 180w, https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/librarynews\/files\/2018\/03\/s_wilson-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 133px) 100vw, 133px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2013Sara Curnow Wilson, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Library Outreach and Communications Administrator<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">First is <strong>Elizabeth Tova Bailey\u2019s <\/strong><\/span><strong><i>The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating<\/i><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which my daughter gave me for Christmas. It\u2019s an utterly absorbing personal narrative of the way a debilitating illness is lightened and enriched for the author by intimate daily observation of a common garden snail in a terrarium \u2013 a gift given to the author by a visiting friend during that illness. In spite of the odd subject, it is a profoundly intimate and moving book. We don\u2019t hold it but you can get it from the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/know.freelibrary.org\/Record\/1759007\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Free Library<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">[Editor\u2019s Note: See bottom of this post for other borrowing options!]<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Second is <strong>Robert Hass\u2019s <\/strong><\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/temple-primo.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com\/primo-explore\/fulldisplay?vid=TULI&amp;search_scope=books_scope&amp;tab=default_tab&amp;docid=01TULI_ALMA21285174550003811&amp;lang=en_US&amp;context=L&amp;adaptor=Local%20Search%20Engine&amp;query=any,contains,&amp;query=a%20little%20book%20on%20form&amp;offset=0\"><i>A Little Book on Form: an exploration into the formal imagination in poetry<\/i><\/a><\/strong><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For anyone of a literary bent, it is an utterly readable and entertaining jaunt through many possible ways of understanding \u201cform\u201d as a dimension of poetry in the English and American traditions from the Renaissance to the present. That may sound dry, but Hass has such a lively and personal voice that it\u2019s fun to read and consistently provides new insights into the many ways poems work. Especially of interest to aspiring poets. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Finally, <strong>Claudia Rankine\u2019s <\/strong><\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/temple-primo.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com\/primo-explore\/fulldisplay?docid=01TULI_ALMA21252689630003811&amp;context=L&amp;vid=TULI&amp;lang=en_US&amp;search_scope=books_scope&amp;adaptor=Local%20Search%20Engine&amp;tab=default_tab&amp;query=any,contains,rankine%20citizen&amp;sortby=rank&amp;offset=0\"><i>Citizen: An American Lyric<\/i><\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>.<\/strong> It\u2019s hard to describe this patchwork of prose poems that is one of the most probing and troubling investigations of race in contemporary American experience. It is somewhat dense and demanding but it is worth the effort. The section on Serena Williams is itself worth the price of admission.<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/librarynews\/files\/2018\/03\/MG_3414.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-15235\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/librarynews\/files\/2018\/03\/MG_3414-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"116\" height=\"171\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2013Joe Lucia, Dean of Libraries<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I\u2019d like to recommend <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/temple-primo.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com\/primo-explore\/fulldisplay?docid=01TULI_ALMA21312124250003811&amp;context=L&amp;vid=TULI&amp;lang=en_US&amp;search_scope=books_scope&amp;adaptor=Local%20Search%20Engine&amp;tab=default_tab&amp;query=any,contains,three%20body%20problem&amp;sortby=rank&amp;offset=0\"><i>The Three-Body Problem<\/i><\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> by <strong>Cixin Liu<\/strong>. I\u2019m only halfway through this book but it\u2019s already unlike anything I\u2019ve ever read! It follows two generations of Chinese scientists as they grapple with the future of humankind. The narrative of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Three-Body Problem<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> weaves together a huge range of subjects including the Cultural Revolution, virtual reality games, nanotech, aliens, and theoretical physics, and still somehow manages to have a suspenseful storyline. <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/librarynews\/files\/2018\/03\/s_jones.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-15231 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/librarynews\/files\/2018\/03\/s_jones.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"140\" height=\"140\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/librarynews\/files\/2018\/03\/s_jones.jpg 180w, https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/librarynews\/files\/2018\/03\/s_jones-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 140px) 100vw, 140px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2013Sarah Jones, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Science &amp; Engineering Librarian<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I recommend <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/temple-primo.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com\/primo-explore\/fulldisplay?docid=01TULI_ALMA21318675140003811&amp;context=L&amp;vid=TULI&amp;lang=en_US&amp;search_scope=default_scope&amp;adaptor=Local%20Search%20Engine&amp;tab=default_tab&amp;query=any,contains,marilynne%20robinson%20lila&amp;sortby=rank&amp;offset=0\"><i>Lila<\/i><\/a> <\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">by <strong>Marilynne Robinson<\/strong>. It\u2019s a beautiful rendering of character and place, set in rural Iowa. If you are interested in studying the craft of fiction writing, Robinson shows you how to weave seamlessly from thought to memory to present.
