{"id":10940,"date":"2009-01-19T09:08:26","date_gmt":"2009-01-19T09:08:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/libtest\/2009\/01\/19\/temple_librarie_2\/"},"modified":"2012-10-22T20:42:53","modified_gmt":"2012-10-22T20:42:53","slug":"temple_librarie_2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/librarynews\/2009\/01\/19\/temple_librarie_2\/","title":{"rendered":"Temple Libraries Announce Spring Season of Events and Programs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Temple University Libraries Announce Spring Season of Events and Programs<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.library.temple.edu\/events\/\">Temple University Libraries Spring 2009 programs and events<\/a> will begin on January 29 with the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.library.temple.edu\/events\/archives\/2009\/01\/book_club_discussion-the_soloist_january_19_100_pm.html\">Temple Book Club\u2019s annual discussion of the <em>One Book, One Philadelphia <\/em>selection; this year\u2019s is <em>The Soloist<\/em> by Steve Lopez.<\/a> Author and journalist Lopez will also be making a stop at the Libraries later this spring. Don\u2019t miss this acclaimed <em>Los Angeles Times <\/em>writer, formerly of <em>The Philadelphia Inquirer<\/em>, on March 19 as he discusses his best-selling book: a story of second chances, human connections and the power of art and music.<\/p>\n<p>The season continues on February 5 with the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.library.temple.edu\/events\/archives\/2009\/02\/chat_in_the_stackfaculty_panel.html\">spring\u2019s first installment of Chat in the Stacks<\/a>. This ongoing series highlighting and promoting excellence in faculty research, creativity and scholarship will highlight Race in the Stage with a performance from <em>The Seven<\/em>, based on Aeschylus\u2019 <em>Seven Against Thebe<\/em>s. Director Lee Richardson, along with English professor Roland Williams and Theater professor Kimmika Williams-Witherspoon, will complete the panel.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.library.temple.edu\/events\/archives\/2009\/02\/a_conversation_with_david_eng.html\">On February 18 we welcome local scholar David Eng<\/a>. A multi-disciplinary scholar, Eng is a professor in the University of Pennsylvania\u2019s English Department, but his specialties lie within and beyond the written word. Eng is a cutting-edge scholar exploring the inter-connectedness of literature, cinema, ethnic studies, sexuality and theory. He will present his new research on \u201cQueer Space in China\u201d through a discussion of the film <em>Lan Yu<\/em>. Please join us in welcoming one of our city\u2019s most engaging academics.
