Generations of scholars have turned to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/coll\/nucmc\/\">National Union Catalog of Manuscript Collections<\/a>\u00a0(NUCMC) to track down collections critical to historical research.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/archivegrid.org\/web\/jsp\/index.jsp\">ArchiveGrid<\/a>\u00a0is a new database from the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rlg.org\/\">Research Libraries Group<\/a>\u00a0(RLG) that also allows researchers to locate relevant manuscript collections. &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/archivegrid.org\/web\/jsp\/contributorlist.jsp\">Thousands<\/a>\u00a0of libraries, museums, and archives have contributed nearly a million collection descriptions to ArchiveGrid. Researchers searching ArchiveGrid can learn about the many items in each of these collections, contact archives to arrange a visit to examine materials, and order copies&#8221; (<a href=\"http:\/\/archivegrid.org\/web\/jsp\/index.jsp\">ArchiveGrid<\/a>). RLG is providing free access to ArchiveGrid through May 31, 2006. After this date ArchiveGrid will remain free if RLG receives additional funding to continue the project. If funds are not found, ArchiveGrid will be made available to institutions as a subscription.<\/p>\n<p>All records in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/coll\/nucmc\/rlinsearch.html\">NUCMC catalog<\/a>\u00a0are said to be available in ArchiveGrid. Given that ArchiveGrid is a brand new resource, researchers should consult both databases for the sake of completeness. Graduate students and senior scholars should cross-check online search results against the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/diamond.temple.edu\/search\/t?SEARCH=national+union+catalog+of+manuscript\">print version<\/a>\u00a0of NUCMC.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<a href=\"http:\/\/library.temple.edu\/about\/directory\/stafflist.jsp?criteria=Murray&amp;type=name&amp;bhcp=1\">David C.
