She obtained her Ph.D. from Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al in September 2023. She grew up in France, Ivory Coast, and Canada, and has been living in Asia since 2020. She is interested in the ecology and evolution of deep-sea organisms. Maeva joined the group through the SMBE mentoring program in 2023 and is modeling the evolutionary dynamics of bacterial symbionts jointly supervised from Hong Kong (<a href=\"https:\/\/biol.hkbu.edu.hk\/people\/academic_staff_detail\/154\/\">Jianwen Qiu<\/a>) and in the Liberles Group.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Master&#8217;s Degree Student<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/liberles\/files\/2024\/03\/khurm_sm.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-730\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/liberles\/files\/2024\/03\/khurm_sm.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"112\" height=\"110\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Katherine Hurm<\/strong> is a +1 PSM student in Bioinformatics at Temple who has completed an undergraduate Genomic Medicine major at Temple. Originally from Souderton, PA, she joined the group in February, 2024.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Undergraduate Students<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/liberles\/files\/2024\/09\/duffy_anna_sm.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-771 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/liberles\/files\/2024\/09\/duffy_anna_sm.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"113\" height=\"110\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Anna Duffy<\/strong> is a biochemistry major at Temple originally from Warrington, PA. She joined the group in September, 2024. She is working on different models to understand the effects of dosage balance on gene duplication.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/liberles\/files\/2024\/09\/mia_elkind_sm.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-779\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/liberles\/files\/2024\/09\/mia_elkind_sm.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"111\" height=\"110\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mia Elkind <\/strong>is a genomic medicine major at Temple from Yardley, PA. She joined the group in September, 2024. She is working on modeling the mechanisms of gene expression evolution.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/liberles\/files\/2026\/02\/hartman_sm.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-816\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/liberles\/files\/2026\/02\/hartman_sm.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"110\" height=\"110\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Samuel Hartman<\/strong> is a Health Professions major at Temple. He is originally from York, PA and joined the group in December, 2025. He is working on using simulations to understand what leads to the evolutionarily stable maintenance of operons.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/liberles\/files\/2024\/09\/leah_Kaplunovich_sm.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-772 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/liberles\/files\/2024\/09\/leah_Kaplunovich_sm.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"110\" height=\"115\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Leah Kaplunovich<\/strong> is an Applied Mathematics major at Temple who joined the group in September, 2024. She is from Rockville, Maryland.
