Jim Thorpe, a Town worth Visiting

Jim Thorpe was recently named as one of the Most Beautiful Small Towns within the USA. On top of that, Jim Thorpe has also been named in the Top 100 Adventure Towns in the USA, the best Fantastic Town for Fall to live in and one of the best Top 50 Places to Live and Play. It’s a town that has a mixture of recreation and historic landmarks and the small town itself is just charming to visit.

Visitors from New York City and Philadelphia often times visit Jim Thorpe so they can go biking, hiking, sightseeing and white water rafting. A couple of things that also helps with making the setting just beautiful is Flagstaff Mountain and the D&L Trail. There are also lots of parks to explore. In addition to all of this, you can also go boating, swimming, fishing plus camp at some nice areas near the lake. This is a great way to escape from the city and enjoy nature. You can even enjoy Jim Thorpe in the winter when it starts snowing because of being able to do cross country skiing thanks to the nearby ski areas.

The business line for Jim Thorpe’s includes galleries, storefronts located in the downtown area, local restaurants and bed plus breakfast available and the scene is a great one to create the perfect post card to send to your loved ones. The town is also home to a local coffee roaster that offers a great coffee fundraiser! You can become familiar with the town by going on a carriage ride or either a walking tour then after you have become familiar with it you can decide what type of activities you would like to do or either just enjoy the beauty of the town.

On top of Packer Hill there are two major landmarks that you don’t want to miss. Those landmarks are Harry Packer Mansions and Asa Packer. Enjoy a tour that is guided at Asa Packer. It’s considered to be an industrialist home that is very popular. Harry Packer Mansion hosts a lot of Murder Mystery Weekends and Disney World used the location as their model for a haunted mansion. You can also enjoy luxurious lodging at the mansion.

The fun is not over with yet because located in the middle of the town is the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway. Excursions run daily from the Old Mauch Chunk Train Station and you can take a look into the past at the Old Jail Museum, Mauch Chunk Opera House and the Mauch Chunk Museum.
