It’s a town that has a mixture of recreation and historic landmarks and the small town itself is just charming to visit.
Visitors from New York City and Philadelphia often times visit Jim Thorpe so they can go biking, hiking, sightseeing and white water rafting. A couple of things that also helps with making the setting just beautiful is Flagstaff Mountain and the D&L Trail. There are also lots of parks to explore. In addition to all of this, you can also go boating, swimming, fishing plus camp at some nice areas near the lake. This is a great way to escape from the city and enjoy nature. It’s considered to be an industrialist home that is very popular. Harry Packer Mansion hosts a lot of Murder Mystery Weekends and Disney World used the location as their model for a haunted mansion. You can also enjoy luxurious lodging at the mansion.
The fun is not over with yet because located in the middle of the town is the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway. Excursions run daily from the Old Mauch Chunk Train Station and you can take a look into the past at the Old Jail Museum, Mauch Chunk Opera House and the Mauch Chunk Museum.
