On behalf of the Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education (POD) and Temple University, the staff at the Center for the Advancement of Teaching (CAT) invites all new educational developers to join us for the <\/span>2026 Online Institute for New Educational Developers (INED).<\/b> During this 4-day virtual conference, leaders in the educational development field will act as faculty mentors, engaging with you in discussions about essential topics that will catalyze your thinking and prepare you to serve and support faculty on your campus. You will also have the opportunity to meet and develop collegial relationships with leaders in the field as well as with your fellow new educational developers, schedule one-on-one consultations, and participate in Q&A sessions.<\/span><\/p>

The 2026 INED is grounded in the newly launched <\/span>Educational Developer Competencies Framework<\/span><\/a>, a resource developed by the POD Network\u2019s Professional Development Committee (PDC). The Framework identifies and describes the knowledge, skills and values central to our work and offers examples of application for practice. At the 2026 INED, you will have the opportunity to explore how the competencies apply to your own practice and to set goals for professional development in the months and years to come.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

As participants in INED, you will have pre-conference access to asynchronous materials that will provide information and resources focused on foundational principles of evidence-based teaching and the history of the field. These resources will remain available during and after the Institute so you can refer back to them during your educational development journey.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

  1. Describe how educational development has evolved as a profession with a body of research and well-defined best practices in response to changes, new evidence, and trends in higher education.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>
  2. Apply the theories and science of learning to educate people from diverse communities and cultures in all college and university contexts, including students in undergraduate and graduate programs as well as faculty, staff, and others participating in professional learning.<\/span><\/li>
  3. Act as an inclusive and equity-minded educational developer in the design and delivery of programs.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>
  4. Effectively practice educational development skills and competencies to meet the needs of their home institution including, but not limited to:<\/span>
