I don’t know what to do. Two states of mind in me.

I chose to select a picture I took last fall in center Philadelphia. This large group was gathered there to celebrate the election of President Joe Biden. There were thousands gathered in the city rejoicing after Biden’s victory. I chose this picture because of the dramatic impacts that covid-19 has had on us. People have been stuck at home and trapped in their houses with nothing to do. Mental health has diminished for many throughout the pandemic and there was little to no optimism. Regardless of political affiliation, seeing all these people come together to celebrate represents hope for the future. I chose this quote from Sappho because I think it describes how the united states have been throughout the whole pandemic. in a time where we should have come together to solve the nation’s problems via covid-19, we instead worked against each other. Everyone has suffered as a result of this pandemic and in order to overcome these obstacles, we must work together. Seeing these people together in the city reminded me that by coming together, we can reach the light at the end of the tunnel.
