a quick introduction
Hello everyone! My name is Zach Holzberg (he/him) and I’m a freshman theater and global studies double major (and will probably be adding a minor in history soon)! I shall cut to the chase and give you all the history of me.
a history of me (in 100 words)
I was born somewhere in New Jersey that I cannot remember the name of, but have been living in Yardley, Pennsylvania for as far back as my memory stretches. I graduated from Pennsbury High School in 2020 and don’t plan on looking back. I am an avid baker and love dogs (I have 2 — Peanut and Pippa, and they are the best). I really enjoy learning and want to travel around the world, and I have no desire to work a traditional desk job in my life. Even though I like history, I don’t like dwelling on my own past.
throwback song of the week
what is history?
If you google “what is history,” it’s defined as “the study of past events, particularly in human affairs.” Even though this definition isn’t wrong, I, for one, believe this definition to be a bit lackluster. In other words, that definition is lame, and history is way cooler than that. I would define history as “the memory of the world,” which is why we have so many historians trying to decode and discover these memories that the world has to offer. This included everything from social constructs, to events, to the study of people, to anecdotal experience to anything that has happened, ever — and not just on Earth, because, you know, outer space exists too. History is too broad to be fit into a little box because that neglects the concepts of objectivity and bias, which are big factors in the way historians study the field of history itself.
That’s it for today, I hope you enjoyed my first blog post!
