final project ideas
I have a few very broad ideas for a final project, but I also might completely change my mind and do something different by next week, but here they are for now:
- gentrification in philly and how it came to be
- the black arts movement of philly & its cultural impact
- racial inequity in philly public schools
throwback song of the week
why I chose these topics
What led me to these topics is by looking up things that I want to learn about and just going down the rabbit hole from there. Philadelphia has such a rich history, and like the rest of America, that history has commonly been whitewashed, overlooking more than can ever be imagined.
What I want to do is learn more about the city I’m living in through an in-depth historical exploration of one of these topics. The “big questions” that I want to find answers to are, why Philly hasn’t been a more equitable place regardless of race? Why has history deemed the history of BIPOC in America a subcategory, rather than just simply American history? I want to expand my own perspective, and researching and digging into any of these topics will help me do so.
