the topic

For my research project, I’ll be researching the black arts movement of Philadelphia and its cultural impact on the city.

this week’s throwback song is Somebody Told Me by the Killers, in honor of Valentine’s Day yesterday!

guiding questions

For this project, I’ll be using 2 primary guiding questions.

First, on a narrow level, is the question of what impact has the black arts movement had on the culture of Philadelphia, and has the culture of Philadelohia fully embraced this movement, or divided it into a subcategory of Philadelphian culture?

My second question is much broader: Why has history deemed the history of BIPOC in America a subcategory, rather than just simply American history? I will be using this question as a frame of reference and will treat Philly as a microcosm of the nation as a whole (for the purposes of this project).

I hope to delve deep into the impact the black arts movement has had on the culture of Philly, and also what the level of impact it has had shows possible tendencies that can be applied on a much broader level to the oppressed history of BIPOC in America.

That’s it for today so thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed my blog post!
