For the next gathering of the student-faculty theory reading group, the group will read and discuss Derrida’s first book,\u00a0Voice\/Speech and Phenomenon<\/i>, as it seems an\u00a0appropriate place to begin thinking about the legacy of phenomenology. You can purchase the new translation on Amazon<\/a> (it is only 87 pages as well).\u00a0For those who do not wish to buy the book, the\u00a0introduction and two chapters, “Meaning and Representation” and “The Voice That Keeps Silent,” were attached as a .pdf to the email announcement sent on 10\/25. There has been a desire, by some, to turn to\u00a0Of Grammatology<\/i>\u00a0and\/or Derrida’s work on ethics in subsequent meetings, so this text should help to ground and anticipates what lies in the future. Love him or not, Derrida still remains a central figure in literary studies and our next meetings should help us get acquainted with his thought in a less formal environment.
