Reproducing Christians: Sex, Race, and Theology on the Early Modern English Stage

April 17, 2013 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

Lecture by Dennis Britton, Assistant Professor, UNH

Professor Britton teaches at the University of New Hampshire and is currently a NEH Fellow at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington D.C. This paper comes from his current project, “Becoming Christian: Race, Reformation, and Early Modern English Romance.” This project is the first to explore the role of race in the Church of England’s baptismal theology and literary “infidels” — specifically Jews, Turks, and Moors — converting to Christianity in early modern English romance.
