CFP: (Re)Connecting in a divided world

Global Fusion 2022, October 14-16, 2022 – Philadelphia, Temple University*

From the COVID-19 pandemic to wars and other disasters, the world has seen the emergence of even more divisions, disruptions, and fault lines in recent years. This makes it all the more imperative for global communication scholars to reconnect and reconvene. How has the global media landscape responded to these disruptions and adaptations? How can we better connect disciplines through our theoretical and methodological endeavors? What are the narratives around connection, the emergence of Zoom, and other forms of CMC during the pandemic? What insights have we gained about (dis)connections between Global North and South, and (re)connecting to the past through nostalgic media practices? While we invite submissions on any aspect of global media and communication, paper or panel submissions that reflect the conference theme of (re)connections above are particularly welcome.

The purpose of the Global Fusion Conference series, which began in 2000, is to promote academic excellence in global media and international communication studies. The conference is sponsored by a consortium of universities: Ohio University, Southern Illinois University, Temple University, Texas A&M University, the University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Virginia. Global Fusion particularly encourages graduate students and junior scholars to submit their work to continue the conference’s commitment to fostering connections between new scholars and more established ones.
