They tell stories about nature and people. In her talk, Dr. Pinki Mondal will discuss why it is important, now more than ever, to focus on the &#8216;Geography&#8217; of the &#8216;Geographic Information Systems&#8217; in this storytelling, especially while utilizing satellite data collected through various space missions. Using her recent research, she will discuss how we can connect the dots between space and society for a more sustainable world.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"346\" height=\"357\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/gisday\/files\/2023\/10\/image-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-579\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/gisday\/files\/2023\/10\/image-1.png 346w, https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/gisday\/files\/2023\/10\/image-1-291x300.png 291w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 346px) 100vw, 346px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Dr. Mondal&nbsp;is an Assistant Professor in the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/udel.edu\/academics\/colleges\/ceoe\/departments\/gss\/\" target=\"_blank\">Department of Geography&nbsp;and Spatial Sciences<\/a>&nbsp;at the University of Delaware and a Resident Faculty at the UD&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/dsi.udel.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Data Science Institute<\/a>. She holds a joint appointment in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences at UD. She is an&nbsp;interdisciplinary scientist trained in environmental remote sensing and Geographic Information Science (GIS). She is&nbsp;interested in understanding the dynamics of coupled natural and human systems by&nbsp;developing geospatial methods for landscape-level monitoring and assessments.&nbsp;Her current research focuses on climate change impacts and adaptation in multifunctional landscapes. Mondal serves as an Editor for&nbsp;<em>Earth Interactions<\/em>, an American Meteorological Society journal, and as an Editorial Board Member for&nbsp;<em>Environmental Research: Food Systems.&nbsp;<\/em>She was named a&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aag.org\/program\/2023-climate-change-society-cohort\/?_zs=SubLk1&amp;_zl=D1g69\" target=\"_blank\">2023 AAG Elevate the Discipline scholar<\/a>&nbsp;in Climate &amp; Society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200bPrior to joining UD, she was&nbsp;a Senior Research Associate at the Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) &#8211; a center within the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.earthinstitute.columbia.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Earth Institute<\/a>&nbsp;at&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.columbia.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\ufeffColumbia University\ufeff<\/a>&nbsp;and an Adjunct Professor in&nbsp;the Spitzer School of Architecture at City University of New York &#8211; City College.&nbsp;She has worked as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.columbia.edu\/~rd2402\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\ufeff\ufeff\ufeff\ufeff\ufeff\ufeffDe\ufeffFri\ufeffe\ufeffs\ufeff&nbsp;Lab\ufeff\ufeff\ufeff\ufeff<\/a>&nbsp;at Columbia University, New York and&nbsp;the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/eco.umass.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">University of Massachusetts, Amherst<\/a>.&nbsp;She has a Ph.D. in Land Change Science from the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/geog.ufl.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\ufeffUnive\ufeffrsity of Florida<\/a>&nbsp;(Go Gators!!).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Register here Geographers are storytellers.
