

{"id":312,"date":"2016-07-16T14:17:35","date_gmt":"2016-07-16T18:17:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/geotoran\/?p=312"},"modified":"2016-07-16T15:18:58","modified_gmt":"2016-07-16T19:18:58","slug":"new-ree-data-at-karst-springs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/geotoran\/2016\/07\/16\/new-ree-data-at-karst-springs\/","title":{"rendered":"New REE data at karst springs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We collected samples from 16 spring in central PA and and an urban karst area just outside Philly and had them analyzed for REE.\u00a0 Rare earth elements (REE) have been used <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/geotoran\/files\/2016\/07\/REE__diffuse.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-325 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/geotoran\/files\/2016\/07\/REE__diffuse-300x219.jpg\" alt=\"REE__baselflow_May2016+by type.xlsx\" width=\"358\" height=\"261\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/geotoran\/files\/2016\/07\/REE__diffuse-300x219.jpg 300w, https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/geotoran\/files\/2016\/07\/REE__diffuse-768x561.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/geotoran\/files\/2016\/07\/REE__diffuse.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 358px) 100vw, 358px\" \/><\/a>in previous studies to differentiate aquifer source rock and weathering processes, as their concentrations are affected by sorption, oxidation and complexation, but they haven\u2019t been used as much in karst settings.\u00a0 Comparing behavior of light rare earth elements (LREE) and heavy rare earth elements (HREE) showed both low ratios and high ratios for springs previously classified as conduit-dominated. Springs with both seasonal variation and little seasonal variation displayed Ce and Eu anomalies.
