Flashy springs behaved a lot like less variable ones. The most likely explanation is that groundwater storage buffers hydrologic stress even in highly karstified aquifers \u2014 the spring with the largest decline, Silver Spring in Florida, sits in a confined, low-storage system with heavy pumping nearby.<br><br>Warmer air temperatures were associated with declining discharge, but bigger temperature trends did not produce bigger discharge trends.
