{"id":1128,"date":"2023-06-02T13:39:05","date_gmt":"2023-06-02T17:39:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/geophysics\/?page_id=1128"},"modified":"2023-06-02T14:17:48","modified_gmt":"2023-06-02T18:17:48","slug":"elements-of-data-science-for-physical-and-life-sciences-sctc-1013","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/geophysics\/teaching\/elements-of-data-science-for-physical-and-life-sciences-sctc-1013\/","title":{"rendered":"Elements of Data Science for Physical and Life Sciences (SCTC 1013)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In Fall 2023, I will for the first time be teaching a section of  &#8220;Elements of Data Science for Physical and Life Sciences.&#8221;  This course is modeled on<a href=\"https:\/\/data.berkeley.edu\/education\/courses\/data-8\"> a course taught at Berkeley.<\/a> I like this course because it teaches incoming science majors fundamental Python programming skills and tools for data exploration and analysis &#8212; skills needed in every scientific discipline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Student work through a series of <a href=\"https:\/\/jupyter.org\/\">Jupyter notebooks<\/a>, tackling problems of increasing complexity, culminating in an introduction to machine learning.
