Look for an easy or interesting biology elective to fulfill your 4 biology elective requirements? Here are some electives that might interest you:
- BIOL 4327: Biological Impacts of Global Climate Change
- Prerequisites: BIOL 1111, 1112/1912 (Introduction to Biomolecules, Cells and Genomes) or 2112/2912 (Introduction to Cellular and Molecular Biology), and 2227 (Principles of Ecology)
- About: Take this class to understand how climate change affects ecosystems and organismal behavior! Classes consist of (oftentimes) outdoor labs, data analysis, groups presentations, and weekly research article discussion.
- BIOL 3914: Honors Scientific Communication
- Prerequisites: must be in honors program + junior status
- About: Learn how to present research and data to different audiences and explore cool methods of science communication, like sculpture and film. Classes will feature guest speakers who are artists and directors. And guess what? There are no exams for this course! Definitely one of the easier classes I’ve taken in CST.
- BIOL 3111: Genomics in Medicine
- Prerequisites: BIOL 1111, 1112/1912 (Introduction to Biomolecules, Cells and Genomes) or 2112/2912 (Introduction to Cellular and Molecular Biology)
- About: In this class, you’ll get to explore different mechanisms in genomic medicine. You’ll have weekly quizzes and 2 research projects to work on. I’d say the requirements for this class are pretty straightforward. It’s also a fantastic choice to contract if you’re an honors student!
- BIOL 3115: Disturbance Ecology
- Prerequisites: BIOL 1111 or 1112/1912 (Introduction to Biomolecules, Cells and Genomes) or 2112/2912 (Introduction to Cellular and Molecular Biology)
- About: Join us at Temple’s Ambler campus to get hands-on experience with fieldwork in ecology! In this class, students will learn about theories and data collection methods in disturbance ecology and work on group presentations. It’s a great opportunity for anyone interested in exploring fieldwork in ecology or seeking a more hands-on experience.
