The Beginning of Lego

Lego’s First Commercial is above. This commercial was released in 1955 and frames Lego’s introduction in the United States. Legos are marketed towards kids and the brand frames the toy as one that unlocks “…a whole new world to build,…” a strategy to entice children and their imaginations. The brand then showcases different creations made using Lego blocks. After this, they showcase a boy building something with Lego blocks, followed up by a girl doing the same. This could be a strategy by the brand to appeal to the masses and widen its consumer demographic. The commercial then closes out by asking the kids to “go out and buy their very own” Lego set. They also showcased that the European brand was now not only available in America but was now also manufactured here as well.

The “Lego Town Plan” is one of the very first Lego sets introduced. This set was introduced in the early 1960s and was created in correlation to the economic growth experienced in the previous decade. Those native to Denmark were doing well financially, which led to greater industrialization and gravitation towards more urban settings. This set was meant to correlate with this period in their history, which shows a strong connection between the company and the country they represent.
