Finley’s Blogger Intro

Hi! My name is Finley and I am a senior at Temple University. I am a PR major with a passion for the publishing industry and entertainment. I have studied abroad before in Rome, Italy and ever since then I knew that I had to continue putting myself out there by traveling and learning. When I heard about this opportunity, I immediately began to envision what it might look like to learn about sustainability in a completely different environment. Now that I have been a PR major for two full years now, I have struggled with the ethics of working as a PR professional. I am so intrigued by Corporate Social Responsibility and sustainability because i think it will allow me to understand how I can stay true to my own personal values while still working in the PR Industry.

I cannot wait to not only learn about CSR and sustainability while also learning more about myself and how I can fit into the PR world while be authentically myself!

Nicole’s Intro Blog

Hi everyone!

My name is Nicole, and I am so excited for the Dublin trip. I have never traveled to Europe before, so this is a brand new journey I am thrilled to embark on.

I am a senior pubic relations major with a minor in communication and activism. I have always wanted to take part in a study abroad program, but have felt that a semester long program was too long for me. Therefore, once I found out about this opportunity with the Klein GO program, I knew it was an experience I had to take advantage of.

I started my Temple journey undecided, and not long after my freshman year, I discovered the world of PR and a passion for the field. I also am quite passionate about all things feminism, environmental activism, and LGBTQIA+ rights (my minor in communication and activism perfectly aligns with these interests). On this trip, I am looking forward to learning more about sustainability and the ways in which organizations make a conscious effort to be environmentally friendly and reduce their carbon footprint.

Outside of of the PR and academic world, I have several hobbies and passions. I grew up doing musical theater, and the theater world has greatly shaped who I am today. I love to sing and play piano, and one day would love to do PR within the music industry. I also love to play games (I am confident I can beat anyone in Mario Kart), spend quality time with my friends, and I especially love a sweet treat after a long day (and by that I mean every day:))

I am beyond grateful for the chance to travel abroad for this course, and I absolutely cannot wait for the journey that is to come.

Thanks for reading!

Crechka’s Intro Blog

Hi everyone !! My name is Crechka Sanchez-Ramirez. I’m really excited for these Dublin trips. And I hope I get the chance to meet and connect with everyone throughout this trip. I am a psychology major, heading to my last academic year. Even though my major isn’t directly related to the PR world. I am glad to have this opportunity to step out and explore what’s outside my major.

Something that I look forward to from this trip is to gain new insight and perspective about the sustainable practices that are taking place in Dublin. I am quite familiar with Mexico locals sustainable practices and can definitely see how it differs from the USA practices. And well I’m a curious person that I would like to explore and understand what are some local sustainable practices that are being used in Dublin. And in related to the course, I would like to have a better understanding on how sustainability can be applied in companies. I’m also excited and look forward to engaging and learning about Irish culture, especially in first hand experiences.

Something about myself is that I am an adventurous person in which I tend to create vlogs videos as a way to look back at my little adventures. So there’s some chance that you guys might see me around recording or editing videos. In addition, I enjoy reading and watching movies. My current favorite book is “Secret History” by Donna Tartt. I strongly recommend it to everyone if you guys haven’t read it yet. Overall, I’m excited and hope to connect with everyone throughout this Dublin trip.

NEW COUNTRY UNLOCKED: IRELAND -KELLY CHHUOR

Sustei (Khmer for hello)! My name is Gheg Kelly Chhuor, but everyone knows me as Kelly. I am super stoked for our trip to Dublin, and I cannot wait to experience the clean, fresh, and crisp air of Ireland.

I am a public relations major, with a minor in content creation. Klein was not my first choice, as I started my Temple journey in the Fox School. The journey that led me to major in PR is something I will always cherish.

As I prepare for my last year at Temple, I find myself reflecting on two thoughts: How do I get out of my comfort zone, and in what ways will I accomplish this? Soon enough, I heard about the Fair Play program through Klein GO, and knew that I had to jump on this opportunity of studying abroad.

Truth be told, I was disappointed in hearing about the DC33’s sanitation strike that occurred over the summer. It made me realize how much of an impact that waste makes to our quality of life and health, which made me understand why environmental efforts from everyone and every entity is imperative to a prosperous life.

This will be my first time studying abroad, as well as my first time traveling to Europe. Before going to Dublin, I spent my summer in Cambodia. There, I had the opportunity to volunteer in charity work surrounding sustainable agriculture, as well as see firsthand the development of the new airport in Cambodia which will be opening next month.

In Dublin, I hope to connect with my classmates, and navigate through this new unlocked country alongside my peers. I wish to gain new found knowledge in living more sustainably, forge new connections, and experience the rich and lavish culture of Ireland. Architecture is also something I am interested in, and I am stoked to see the plethora of historical buildings, hear its story, and keep them in my heart.

back to the motherland!

Hey everyone!!

I’m Mia Callejas 🙂 I’m currently in the airport waiting to board! The anticipation is too much, really. This is my first study abroad/Klein GO experience and I can’t wait! I’ve been obsessed with the idea of going to Ireland for the past year and it’s crazy to me that it’s actually happening, especially revolving around a class that I find very important.

Here’s some basic info about me:

I’m a junior Media Studies and Production Major with a strong passion for content creation and pop culture! I am a content creator for Klein, so you’ll always catch me with my camera out (it’s my job, you can’t blame me). I’m also trying to get into photography, so if you want any pictures, ask me!

While I’m thrilled to be getting 3 credits out of this experience, what I most hope to gain is connection. Not only do I want to connect with you all, but I also want to connect with locals of Ireland! I hope to work and live abroad one day, and this is a perfect opportunity to make connections and start making that a reality.

Outside of a school setting, I’m a very big music lover, so if niche (and not so niche) queer music is your thing, we’ll get along great 🙂

Ila goes to Ireland!

My name is Ila van Schaik, and I am headed off to Ireland!

I am beyond excited for this trip. I haven’t gotten the chance to travel internationally in a long time and am grateful to be doing it with such a great group.

Since I was a little girl, I knew studying abroad was going to be part of my education. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to fit a trip abroad into my schedule, but Fair Play checked all of my boxes. It’s an eight-day trip with an itinerary flexible enough that I’ll have plenty of time to explore.

Traveling has taught me my most valuable lessons, which are often prompted by the need to problem solve. Who knows what my exploring may lead to!

I could not tell you how many buses I’ve missed, phones I’ve forgotten, or wallets I’ve misplaced. But, no matter what got in my way, I always reached my destination.

I’ve learned to take things as they come.

And to be early.

I am going into this trip with an open mind and open eyes. I’m looking forward to seeing giant castles and landscapes that feel straight out of Narnia. I’m looking forward to an Irish breakfast and a pub visit, or two. And most of all, I’m looking forward to the strange paths my mistakes will lead me down!

Follow along! I’ll be taking over the Klein Global Instagram as we explore the wonderful city of Dublin, Ireland.

I will be sharing every step of my journey, the good, the bad, and the awesome.

If reading is more your speed, I have an extended blog post on my thoughts pre-departure, which you can read here.

See you on the other side!

First Study Abroad in Dublin – Rachel Kim

Hi friends!

My name is Rachel Kim. I’m a Public Relations major with a minor in Journalism. I’m in an accelerated Master of Public Policy program as well.

What excites me most about being in Dublin is the opportunity to see how PR, public policy, CSR and sustainability interact in Ireland’s culture. I believe their best pactices are worth learning from and bring back home.

One experience I’m especially looking forward to is visiting the Jameson/Irish Whiskey foundation.

Over the summer, I was and influencer marketing intern at Nike Comms. I worked on a few different spritit brands. My favorite one was BACARDÍ Rum.

Outside of class, I have a passion for music and dance. I used to teach color guard in North NJ and was in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade in 2022. Continuing my passion for music, I love EDM and music festivals.

I’m currently at JFK taking a JetBlue flight! This trip is my first time doing a study abroad program, and I’m super excited to explore and travel with everyone.

David Chase Blogger Intro

Hello! My name is David Chase and I am a rising senior at Temple University. I am a Communication Studies major here at Klein, so I am taking this class as an elective. I am super excited to visit Dublin! I have been to the UK once before (Scotland), but never to Ireland. I didn’t go to Scotland too long ago, so I am interested to pick up on some of the differences and maybe similarities between the two neighboring countries.

I wasn’t very familiar with CSR before this week’s online classes. So I, for one, am glad that we had those meetings this week for me to feel more informed in the world of CSR. I am curious to find out what companies in Dublin focus their specific efforts on in the realm of corporate social responsibility and sustainability. I would like to imagine most companies out there are doing their part in contributing to environmental & social sustainability.

I am eager to get out there and meet my classmates, talk to locals, see different landmarks, and try new foods. I’m hoping Allie and Professor Ryan will be excited to share with us what they know about Dublin. I can’t wait to take some cool pictures and have a few pints at different pubs that intrigue me. Hopefully I can maybe catch a sporting event or perhaps some good music. Nevertheless, whatever we are doing out there will certainly be engaging and leave me wanting more time there!

Overall, I am going into this trip with a positive and open mindset, and can’t wait to touch down in Dublin!

Sean Blog Intro

Hi! My name is Sean Graveley and I am a rising senior and Media Studies and Production major. This is my first time with Klein Go and will be my first visiting Ireland or anywhere in Europe for that matter (yay!). There are Irish roots in all corners of my family so this has been something I’ve been looking forward to for a long time.

I have a passion for visual media and storytelling, so I’m excited to take pictures and video of the beautiful scenery Ireland has to offer. My goal is to work in video and media production after graduating either for a production company of sorts or a news organisation. I currently work at Temple Update as a Director, Technical Director, and editor. I also host and produce for the sports shows of WHIP Radio at Temple.

When it comes to CSR, it is something I am really looking forward to learning more about from professionals in Ireland. As an aspiring media professional, CSR is applicable in the industry in so many different ways, so I want to be as knowledgeable and informed as I can be when I enter the industry.

I am incredibly excited to see everyone there and have a blast in a new country! I can’t wait to experience what Irish culture has to offer.

Safe travels everyone and see you in Dublin!

Slán,

Sean Graveley

Grace Blogger Intro

Hi! I’m Grace Driscoll, a rising junior at Temple University, double-majoring in Communications and Advertising at the Klein College of Media and Communication. After coming into Temple undecided, I quickly learned how special Klein was, ultimately leading me to declare my major at the end of my freshman year. My journey through the world of media has been all about growth with stepping out of my comfort zone, seizing new opportunities, and building a career grounded in purpose.

As someone who’s passionate about climate advocacy, discovering CSR during a communication seminar at Klein changed everything for me. I dove into comparative research between the U.S. and Ireland and was struck by Ireland’s advanced approach to social responsibility. Now, I’m eager to see those practices up close.

Back in 2022, I had the chance to travel across Ireland’s southern coast on a family trip. That experience sparked in me a connection, not just to the culture and beauty of the country, but to the values it holds. My family has always made it a priority for my siblings and me to feel connected to our Irish roots, with my dad owning an Irish bar here in Philadelphia. So if you catch me knowing all the lyrics to Irish songs, don’t be confused lol. Fast forward to today, I’m excited to return with this new lens of CSR in one of the best countries to do so.

When I’m not studying, you can find me watching movies, going to concerts, or finding coffee shops to read and write in. Last March, I went to Inhaler’s concert at the Met (Bono’s son is the lead singer). I also love photography and content creation, especially when it lets me tell meaningful stories or capture everyday moments in unique ways. Additionally, I work as an alumni affairs intern at Temple’s Beasley School of Law. There, I help plan alumni events and distribute content for solicitations for the law school.

I am particularly excited to hear some live Irish music and to have some pints of Guinness! Sláinte!
