New ACLS Humanities E-Book Titles
The ACLS Humanities E-Book collection recently added more than 500 new titles, including reference works such as the AHA Guide to Historical Literature and the Catalogus Translationum et Commentariorum. New primary sources include Columbia University Press’s Records of Civilization series as well as the Collected Writings of Walt Whitman.
ACM Digital Library Update
ACM (the Association for Computing Machinery) has introduced a powerful new search capability for its Digital Library. Using a “guided navigation” approach, it creates a new search results interface, which makes the data available in different views. Users can then segment and display the underlying content in different ways.
For example, a search on the new ACM platform returns standard query results, but also provides dynamic summaries of all the data and content in those results. These summaries instantly change as users select filters and other refinements. Among the refinements applicable to the search are keywords, people, publications, and conferences. Users can also find related journals, magazines, ACM Special Interest Groups, and meetings through the search process.
The new search capability is the latest improvement to the ACM DL. ACM Author Pages were recently instituted to show the collected works of an author, an institutional affiliation, and individual and aggregate citations and download counts. This advance enables users to see which articles are actually downloaded for research and reference. In addition, new methods of citation and content analysis, known as bibliometrics, used to study or measure texts and information, are now associated with each article. They are currently aggregated for authors, and soon will be available for institutions as well. A major effort was recently completed to normalize author and institution names, increasing the speed and accuracy of finding the published works of specific authors and institutions.

ERIC Update
ERIC has announced the release of nearly 60,000 additional full-text electronic documents. This release is part of the continuing effort underway within the ERIC Microfiche Digitization Project. To date, more than 170,000 documents scanned from microfiche are now available in full text. The majority of the documents in the current release were published prior to 1978.
The Microfiche Digitization Project will close in March 2009, and ERIC is still seeking to discuss ERIC permissions with authors and copyright holders of works that were indexed 1966-1992. If you or someone you know has work indexed in ERIC that is available in microfiche only, please visit the digitization page to learn more about this initiative. Granting permission for ERIC to release copyrighted works in electronic format will ensure that these materials are widely accessible.
