Student Teaching Observation Calendar and Guide

This document is intended to serve as a resource and guide for Student Teachers, Cooperating
Teachers, and University Coaches in regards to the progression of the student teaching experience and the responsibilities within each role over the course of the semester. (1) confirm the date/ time/ location of
1st Lesson Observation and PostOC,

(2) request LP (with deadline) and

(3) ask what questions/concerns the ST has
prior to the 1st Lesson Observation

·   Review the ST’s LP

·   Meet with your CT
to co-plan the lesson for your 1st Lesson Observation

·   Respond to the UC’s
contact with confirmation of the date/time/location of 1st Lesson
Observation and PostOC and with the questions/concerns you have going into
the 1st Lesson Observation

·   Submit your LP to
your UC by the requested deadline

·   Develop your lesson
materials and practice your lesson responsibilities after reviewing them with
your CT

·   Meet with your ST
to co-plan the lesson for his/her 1st Lesson Observation

·   Reach out to the UC
with any questions or concerns to address and/or anything that you would like
the UC to pay particular attention to during the 1st Lesson
Observation

During Visit

·   Observe at least 30
minutes of ST’s instructional delivery

·   Take notes on the
ST’s actions, the students’ actions, and the ST’s attentiveness to the LP and
the TTS

·   Participate in the
instructional delivery of the lesson as either SGF or Co-Teacher

·   Participate in the
instructional delivery of the lesson as either Lead Teacher or Co-Teacher

After Visit

·   Engage in PostOC
with the ST (and CT if possible)

·   (within 48 hours) Complete

·   Respond to ST’s

STUDENT TEACHER GROWTH PLAN

o    The STGP can be initiated at any point during the semester by anyone on the Student Teacher Growth Team: Student Teacher, Cooperating Teacher, University Coach, Field Placement Coordinator, Associate Dean of Teacher Education, or another Temple University Administrator.

o    The University Coach will be responsible for supporting the Student Teacher through the STGP.

o    The STGP begins with a conference including, but not limited to, the Student Teacher, the Cooperating Teacher, and the University Coach.

o    This conference will begin with a conversation about the Student Teacher’s unsatisfactory progress in meeting the expectations of Student Teaching held by the school partner and/or the university.

o    The conference will continue with the development of a plan for the Student Teacher to meet the expectations of Student Teaching and the timeframe within which this is to be expected. Consequences for not meeting the expectations during the stated timeframe will also be discussed.

o    Those present in the meeting will end the conference by reaffirming their commitment to supporting the Student Teacher’s success.

o    The University Coach will submit a completed Student Teacher Growth Plan document to TK20 and will coach and supervise the Student Teacher’s progress towards meeting the goals outlined in the STGP.

o    The University Coach will check-in often (via phone, email, or additional classroom visits) with the ST and CT for progress updates and will possibly complete additional lesson observations.

o    The University Coach will submit any additional TORs to TK20.

o   The University Coach will alert the Field Placement Coordinator if the Student Teacher fails to meet the expectations outlined in the Student Teacher Growth Plan in the stated timeframe and/or fails to meet other expectations of Student Teaching.

Weeks 7-9: 3rd Lesson Observation

·         Submit the Final
PDE-430 and Summary TOR on TK20*

·         Schedule and
complete a Final Coaching Conversation, via phone or in-person, with your ST

·         Determine your
Student Teacher’s final course grade for Student Teaching, according to the
“Student Teaching Grading Guidelines” document online

·         Submit your Student
Teacher’s final course grade to the Office of Field Placement by Wednesday,
December 11th

·         Complete the
University Coach Survey on TK20 by Friday, December 13th.

·          

·         Respond to your UC’s
request to schedule a Final Coaching Conversation

·         Participate in your
Final Coaching Conversation

·         Review all Final documents
posted to TK20

·         Complete the
Student Teacher Exit Survey on TK20 by Friday, December 13th.

·         Complete and submit
the End-of-Semester Evaluation to TK20**

·         Complete the
Cooperating Teacher Survey on TK20 by Friday, December 13th.

*The Summary TOR and Final PDE-430 should be uploaded to TK20 within a week of the 4th Lesson Observation and no later than Friday, December 6th.

**The End-of-Semester Evaluation should be uploaded to TK20 by Monday, December 2nd.
